Worcestershire County Council Worst in Country for Active Travel Bid

Bromsgrove's Lib Dems have yet again expressed their disappointment at Worcestershire County Council's lack of action on improving active travel.

Following the news that the County Council only received half of its active travel bid back in July, the Lib Dems called for more ambitious plans from the ruling Conservative group after Bromsgrove missed out on thousands of pounds to improve walking and cycling due to the Council's poor bid.

It now transpires that Worcestershire County Council has ranked as the worst authority in the country by percentage of its indicative versus actual active travel funds.

Josh Robinson, Bromsgrove Lib Dem Chair and a frequent cyclist expressed his frustration at the news. He said: "Once again the Conservatives at Worcestershire County Council are letting us all down. Instead of being proud of some painted signs on the floor the Council needs to get ambitious and provide the infrastructure needed to help reduce congestion in our town."

Josh's calls were echoed by fellow Lib Dem campaigner Sam Evans, who has been calling for the Council to do more to improve active travel opportunities, particularly in light of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Sam added: "As we are still enduring the Covid-19 pandemic the Council needs to do more to provide opportunities to increase public health. We already know that air pollution kills about 40,000 people per year. The County Council needs to get its act together to provide more opportunities for residents to walk and or cycle safely."
