More Ambition Needed On Active Travel
Reacting to news that Worcestershire County Council has received £135,500 to spend on walking and cycling across the county, Bromsgrove Lib Dems are calling for our town to receive a fair share of the funds.
Local Lib Dem campaigner Sam Evans welcomed the additional funds for improvements, but he expressed disappointment that Worcestershire only received half of the £271,000 it bid for.
He said: "Many of us welcome additional funding to improve cycling and walking routes to increase public health and tackle the climate emergency, however, it is disappointing that the Council has received only half of the funds it asked for."
Josh Robinson, Bromsgrove Lib Dem Chair and a frequent cyclist also criticised the plans, describing them as not being as ambitious as they could be, with the route between Redditch and Bromsgrove being the only local area to receive enhancements.
Josh added: "This is extremely disappointing, the Government asked councils to be ambitious with their plans but it looks like we are one of those unambitious councils that were moaned about. We have missed out on thousands of pounds of money to improve walking and cycling in our area because our Conservative led county council has put in such a poor bid."
