Local Conservatives vote against a by-pass
Lib Dem Councillors Rob Hunter and Siobhan Hughes are campaigning for a western by-pass
A motion calling on the council to make sure that a western by-pass is considered as part of the next Strategic Transport Assessment was backed by 11 councillors at last week's meeting of Bromsgrove Council. It was proposed by the Lib Dem Group, seconded by Independent Alliance and also backed by the Labour Group.
However, the motion didn't pass because the ruling Conservative Group voted against it.
Bromsgrove Lib Dem Group Leader Rob Hunter who proposed the motion commented "the Conservatives say they are committed to resolving congestion but when push comes to shove, they just will not fight for a real solution to the chronic traffic problems we face in Bromsgrove. The planned improvements to the existing main A38 route are welcome but are clearly not sufficient in the long term. I cannot understand why they refuse to acknowledge this. Local residents deserve a proper debate on this issue instead of having it constantly swept under the carpet."
Lib Dem Councillor Siobhan Hughes who represents Central Ward which the A38 runs through added "its not just about inconvenience it's about the health and wellbeing of local residents. We will continue to campaign on this issue because long suffering residents deserve better."
