Lickey End Recreation Ground Volunteering Morning
Local volunteers are sought to help spruce up a local park ahead of a Green Flag Award inspection. Bromsgrove District Council has applied for Green Flag status for Lickey End Recreation Ground and an inspection is due in less than two weeks.
The Green Flag Award is the international standard for parks and green spaces. It demonstrates improvement and helps boost the profile of parks and green spaces.
Volunteers are invited to join Councillors Rob Hunter and Josh Robison on Saturday 20 April 10am-12pm to help spruce up the recreation ground ready for a crucial inspection the following week.
In previous years successful volunteering mornings have seen local residents roll up their sleeves to help clear out invasive Himalayan Balsam plants and reintroduce native plants to the banks of the Spadesbourne Brook. These activities have helped make the area look more attractive, reduce flood risk and improve biodiversity. The new Marsh Marigold planted last year is now in full bloom.
Cllr Rob Hunter said: "I'm really excited about this application for a Green Flag Award to recognise all the work we have done to improve Lickey End Recreation Ground. We know there is still a lot more work to do but if we are successful the award will help put Lickey End Recreation Ground on the map, making it easier for us to secure further improvements."
Cllr Josh Robinson said: "I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in on Saturday. It's always great to see so many people getting involved. We are really lucky to have such a strong community here."
Residents wishing to take part should meet Rob and Josh at the Recreation Ground car park at 10am on Saturday 20 April.
