Lib Dems Will Protect Green Belt and Focus on Building Affordable Housing

17 Apr 2023

The Liberal Democrats recognise that there is a real need for more affordable housing In Bromsgrove, however the party believe that this should not mean giving developers free rein to concrete over the countryside.

Ahead of the local elections on 4th May, the Lib Dems are campaigning for new development to be at sustainable levels.

Lib Dems are committed to a fair and sustainable planning strategy with a better balance between homes which local residents can afford to buy or rent and the more expensive homes to which some will aspire.

Lib Dems would take a more careful approach to cross-boundary agreements thus avoiding the mistakes made in the recent Redditch and Bromsgrove developments agreement, which disadvantaged Bromsgrove.

Bromsgrove Lib Dems

Vanessa Verlinden, Lib Dem candidate for Sanders Park said: "There is a real need for more affordable housing in Bromsgrove but this should not mean giving developers free rein to concrete over our countryside. A Lib Dem led council will oppose overspill development and ensure that there are fewer new executive homes being built. We will focus on delivering genuinely affordable homes for people who grew up and/or work in Bromsgrove but can't afford to live here."

Janet King, Lib Dem Councillor for Lickey Hills added: "It is disappointing that our Conservative run council delayed the publication of the green belt review until after the local elections in May. We must ensure that residents are given an early say about any sites likely to be released to be built on."

The Liberal Democrats are also campaigning for the right infrastructure to be in place when new developments are built.
