Lib Dems Weigh In On New Cycling and Walking Proposals

Liberal Democrat Candidates for Bromsgrove Central, Josh Robinson, and Bromsgrove East, Sam Evans, have weighed in on new proposals as part of the Council's Bromsgrove Route Enhancement Programme.

The Lib Dems have welcomed some of the announcements, as they have been consistently campaigning to improve active travel opportunities in Bromsgrove to boost public health and reduce pollution.

The plans to introduce a new toucan crossing at the roundabout on Slideslow Drive and introducing a separate segregated walking and cycling path along a section of the A38 were welcomed.

Commenting on that proposal, campaigner Josh Robinson said: "As a keen cyclist who has been campaigning for the Council to do more on active travel this part of the proposals is welcome, as currently pedestrians do not have a pavement to walk on along the A38 in this area and cyclists have to cycle on the busy and fast road."

However, the Lib Dems raised concerns about the Council's plans for Regents Park Road between the busy roundabout and Royal Worcester Crescent.

Bromsgrove East resident and candidate for the area Sam Evans commented: "To the Council's credit they are taking some steps in the right direction on active travel. However, under these plans a speed bump will be removed on Regents Park Road which is concerning."

"Moreover, the road is quite wide already, so making cyclists have to share the pavement with pedestrians is not likely the best option to take. Although the pavement there is set to be made slightly wider, residents in surrounding areas such as Aston Fields and Harwood Park have already raised concerns when the Council converted existing pavements into shared cycle and pedestrian pavements without making them wide enough."

Bromsgrove's Lib Dems are continuing to campaign for better active travel opportunities and better infrastructure across the district.
