Lib Dems launch commitment to declare a Climate Emergency and improve our Green infrastructure

Bromsgrove Liberal Democrats kick off their county council election campaign with a video pledging to declare a Climate Emergency, commit to more spending on green infrastructure and work towards turning all parts of the Council's business into a carbon neutral enterprise.

Sam Evans, Lib Dem candidate for Bromsgrove East says "75% of councils nationwide have now declared a climate emergency, but the Conservative led Worcestershire County has failed to do so. We will bring a climate emergency motion to council immediately, with real solutions to the problems we are facing."

Joanna McKenna, Lib Dem candidate for Bromsgrove West added: "The Council must change. We have a great range of experts leading our campaign and we are excited at the prospect of being elected to the County Council to make a significant impact. We have doctors, health care professionals, town planners, financial specialists and business owners running as candidates across the county, all with expertise that can help us bring the Worcestershire's carbon emissions down".

"As a party we were shocked to read the recent Worcester News story that a member of the public was refused an answer to a Freedom of Information (FOI) request asking how many climate change questions had been asked by members of the public at council meetings over the last 12 months. We will ensure that members of the public have a full opportunity to hold councillors and the council to account."

The Liberal Democrats pledge to:

  • increase recycling rates to match the best councils in the country
  • improve cycling and walking infrastructure so that people have the option not to drive
  • increase the biodiversity of Worcestershire by working with residents and community groups, and
  • fight unsustainable development.
