Bromsgrove Lib Dems want a return to sensible, pragmatic politics, putting local residents first. Our priorities include tackling traffic congestion, protecting green belt and investing in local services.
We recently launched our campaign for the 2019 local elections, offering local voters a fresh start and a real alternative to the tired tribal politics of the Labour and Conservative Parties. We are committed to working with other moderate and responsible councillors to put residents before party politics and work hard for a better deal for the district.
One of our key priorities is protecting the Green Belt. Local group chair Janet King said: "Residents I talk to where I live in Blackwell are extremely concerned about whether the Green Belt is in safe hands with the Conservatives. We are not against new homes but we need the right homes, in the right places, with the right infrastructure. We must make responsible planning decisions."
Rob Hunter, who is standing where he lives in Lickey End and Norton, is particularly concerned about Bromsgrove's overstretched roads. He said "The Conservatives have completely failed to address the chronic traffic congestion in our part of the town. The amount of traffic travelling through Lickey End is completely unsustainable, we cannot expect local residents to go on tolerating dangerous levels of air pollution anymore. We need better public transport and the time has come to have a proper debate about a western by-pass."
Siobhan Hughes, a Lib Dem candidate in Bromsgrove Central is committed to fighting for more investment in the town centre and wants to see the high street revitalised. Siobhan said "We are now seeing old party allegiances disintegrate both nationally and locally, with people increasingly looking simply for a strong local voice who will put residents first, championing investment in local schools, libraries and leisure facilities. I grew up in Bromsgrove Central and have seen at first hand the impact of years of neglect from the Conservatives. I'm standing as a candidate for the Lib Dems because local residents deserve better."
Local elections are taking place on Thursday 2 May.
