LIB DEMS HIT OUT AT SHOCKING CUTS TO 144 BUS SERVICE
Following news that the popular 144 bus between Bromsgrove and Birmingham is set to suffer severe cuts, the local Liberal Democrats have hit out at the 'outrageous' decision to cut the service.
The cuts will leave the vital service only running once-an-hour on most occasions.
Passengers have rightfully been devastated by the news and the effect these cuts will have on their commute into the country's second city.
Rob Hunter, Leader of the Bromsgrove Liberal Democrats and Councillor for Norton, hit out at the service operator for "decimating the town's principal bus service."
"The proposed new timetable is nothing short of an outrage."
Liberal Democrat campaigner Samuel Evans who authored the party's written response to the County Council's public transport consultation last summer hit out at the cuts to the 144, stating that they are "disappointing for regular users and local residents."
"The cuts to the Saturday service have almost slashed the number of buses from Bromsgrove to Birmingham in half. Public transport in Bromsgrove is dire and we need cleaner, greener, more reliable and better-connected public transport across the county.
With the world facing a Climate Emergency we should be encouraging more people to take up public transport as opposed to driving, and these cuts are counter-productive in tackling the Climate Crisis."
The Bromsgrove Lib Dems have also questioned the lack of response from the ruling Conservative group on the council given that their party's General Election manifesto pledged to 'invest in the bus network' and to speed up journeys and protect routes.
