At tonight's full council meeting Lib Dem councillors Rob Hunter, Janet King and Siobhan Hughes will present two motions to improve transport infrastructure and restore pride in our town in a campaign backed by Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate Dr David Nicholl.

The first motion demands action to improve bus stops along some of our key transport corridors, calling for extra investment to bring them up to standard. Whilst some have recently been improved, many are still in a poor state as they haven't been allocated enough funds by the Conservatives.

Councillor Rob Hunter who is proposing the motion said "We need to encourage more people to leave their cars at home and take the bus, but as long as bus users are made to feel like second class citizens we will never achieve this. Our residents deserve the same quality modern infrastructure that residents in other areas enjoy. I would like to see neglected and damaged shelters removed and new shelters installed with modern facilities such as real time travel information."

The second motion seeks action to upgrade our car parks after years of underinvestment by the Conservatives, resulting in them not getting the improvements they need to bring them up to date.

Councillor Siobhan Hughes who proposed the motion said: "This council has recently declared a climate emergency and we must do everything we can to reduce carbon emissions. Whilst we want to encourage people to use less polluting forms of transport, we must also make our town attractive and accessible to visitors to help boost our High Street."

"We could start by introducing electric car charging points and energy efficient LED lighting to make the car parks as sustainable as possible. We also need to look at bringing payment options into the 21st century and allow people to pay by card as well as cash. Other initiatives such as parent and child spaces could help to ensure the facilities are accessible to as many people as possible.

The Lib Dems push to improve transport infrastructure is part of a wider campaign to build a brighter future for Bromsgrove.

Dr David Nicholl, The Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate said "I believe we can achieve a more vibrant future for our town if we stop starving it of the investment it needs. I want to revitalise our High Street by funding new infrastructure and scrapping the business rates that are crippling so many of our shops."
