Letter from the Chair - August 2012

Dear friends,

It was a pleasure to meet Nick Clegg recently at Aston Villa along with other chairs and members of West Midlands Lib Dems. Mike Mihailovic and I enjoyed a lively Q and A session with Nick and were impressed at how well he coped with some difficult questions.

His message to us all was to get out on the doorsteps and not to be apologetic about the coalition's achievements.Whilst acknowledging that we could have done more in Government on our own, our party's great victory in 2010 was establishing coalition government in the UK as an accepted fact.

Now that the country sees that coalition's work (at least all apart from some Labour party members, who long to see us walk out) there is real hope for future two party Governments including the Liberal Democrats and this can only be to our advantage. `Point out on the doorsteps the many achievements of the present Government' was Nick's advice and we are working on a check list of achievements to take out with us when we speak to residents on the doorstep.

All of which leads to a request from myself and the Bromsgrove executive. If we are to get even one councillor elected in the next two years, we have to start now getting out and talking to local electors. It is not scary and it can even be very pleasant. It is always instructive and will stand us in good stead for 2013 when we stand for the county council.

Our request to you all is simply this: please come and join us as we get out and about in your area. You can let us know when you are free to help (day time or evening) by contacting myself (Janet King) or the editor (Tom Coe). We have already delivered surveys in Barnt Green and Whitford. Do you have an area in which you would like to help with a survey?

Enjoy the rest of the Olympics and then let's get out there and win a few votes!

Janet
Chair of Bromsgrove Liberal Democrats
