Journalist and author John Sweeney, who doorstepped Vladimir Putin and reported undercover in North Korea, is to speak in Bromsgrove

Author and journalist John Sweeney is set to give a talk at Bromsgrove Sporting Friday 8th November ahead of the Liberal Democrats' AGM.

John worked for 17 years at the BBC for Panorama and Newsnight, spending time undercover in Zimbabwe, North Korea, and twice in Chechnya.

In his journalistic career John has a history of holding the most powerful to account, having questioned Donald Trump about his links with the mob which led to Trump storming out of the interview. John also challenged Vladimir Putin by asking him about Russia's role in the shooting down of flight MH17 over Ukraine which killed 298 people.

Alongside his work as a journalist John has written 13 non-fiction books and 4 novels covering topics as diverse as Scientology and North Korea. His dispatches in the Russian invasion of Ukraine and Battle of Kyiv were made famous by his orange hat.

Earlier this year he stood as a Liberal Democrat candidate in the General Election.

John will discuss his latest book “Murder in the Gulag- the life and death of Alexei Navalny”, and his career in journalism on Friday 8th November at 8PM. The talk will take place at Bromsgrove Sporting and is free to attend.

Anyone wishing to attend will need to reserve their place by emailing Bromsgrove Liberal Democrats' chair Dr David Nicholl at davidjnicholl@gmail.com.
