Winner: Chris (centre) receiving his prizes from Janet King (party chair - left) and Tom Coe (communications officer - right).

Earlier this month, Bromsgrove Lib Dems announced the winner and runner up in our first ever essay competition on our Facebook page and now we are sharing the news, in full on our website!

Chris Rouse, from Droitwich picked up the first place award whilst Jon Griffiths, a first year Politics student from the University of Nottingham who is from Bromsgrove won the 2nd prize.

Chris won £50 and a copy of the book 'Them and Us' by Will Hutton, the columnist from of The Guardian and the Observer and who is now Master of Hertford College, Oxford.

Jon also won a copy of the book and £25, which was kindly donated by a member of the local party, Geoff Ray who was impressed with the standard of the two winners' essays.

The theme for the essay was 'Fairness must lie at the heart of good government' and the decision between the two top essays was very difficult to make as both essays were particularly strong amongst the competition.

Delighted with winning the top prize, Chris stated that he found the topic for the essay to be very stimulating, and struggled to fit everything he had to say within the two thousand word limit.

Having just finished his AS levels this month, Chris is currently looking at his options for University and is starting his A2's in September. When he's not busy studying, Chris also likes to help the local party in Droitwich out with deliveries and is very highly thought of amongst the local party in the town.

Bromsgrove Lib Dems would like to thank all entries to the competition, which obtained great interest, and we look forward to running another competition in 2013.
