Local residents have expressed dismay at plans to bulldoze Bromsgrove sports hall after a hard fought campaign to keep it open.

At a council meeting yesterday evening Conservative councillors voted to spend £600,000 demolishing the hall instead of investing around £2.5 million in a new one as residents groups had asked.

Local resident Siobhan Hughes said 'this is an awful decision made all the more galling by the fact that the council had an eleventh hour offer from a leisure company interested in running a sports hall.'

Fellow campaigner Rob Hunter added 'this is a really disappointing outcome after a hard fought campaign by local residents and seems to run completely contrary to the council's Get Active strategy to encourage people to adopt healthier lifestyles.'

Despite this disappointing move, Bromsgrove Liberal Democrat's will continue to champion investment in high quality public services and local leisure facilities that are accessible to all.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the residents who led and took part in the campaign to keep the sports hall going and encourage anyone who has not already done so to make their voice heard.
