Campaign For High Street Hand Sanitisers

Local activists from the Bromsgrove Lib Dems are calling for the Council to install temporary automatic hand sanitiser stations and Coronavirus guidance signs on the high street as lockdown restrictions are eased.

Following the Prime Minister's announcement on Monday (25 May) that non-essential retail stores can re-open from 15 June, and the announcement from Bromsgrove District Council that the market will reopen on 2 June, Lib Dem spokesperson Sam Evans is campaigning for temporary safety measures as an increase in footfall of shoppers is anticipated.

Sam Evans said: "As lockdown measures are lifted and shops on our high street reopen it is vital that we respond to the dangers imposed by Covid-19."

"That is why local activists are calling on the Council to introduce automatic hand sanitiser stations throughout the high street and signs to remind shoppers to keep a safe distance away from others."

He also pointed to other local areas where similar measures had been installed such as by Cotswold District Council.

Local activist Josh Robinson, who works on the high street, joined Mr Evans' calls for the temporary safety measures.

Josh added: "'I work on our high street, we will be providing hand sanitiser within the store but guidance released from the Government has said there should be stations on the high street too. I am calling on Bromsgrove District Council to work with shops to help make our high street safe which will help make it thrive again.'"

The Bromsgrove Lib Dems are urging the Council to introduce these measures swiftly, following calls last week from Councillors Rob Hunter and Siobhan Hughes to assess how the high street can be made safer for shoppers post-lockdown.
