Danny Alexander's yellow despatch box was not a joke. The best bits in the 2015 Budget were actually Liberal Democrat policies and that is why we entered the coalition and why some of us, despite the views of Lord Steele, would prefer to be in Government than on the opposition benches.(personal view).

First and foremost is yet another increase in the Income Tax Personal allowance - up to £10,800 in 2016/17 and then to £11,000 in 2017/18. The front page of our manifesto in 2010 showed our policy to increase it to £10,000 by the end of this Parliament. I am proud to have not only been able to deliver this, but to go well beyond! Over 27million workers will benefit from a £905 tax cut, while almost 4million of the lowest paid workers will be taken out of tax altogether.
There are a whole range of other issues that are well worth the read: improvements to the quality of apprenticeship training; an increase in the tax on Banks; a boost for savers; extra help for first-time buyers; extra investment for mental health services and even more action against tax avoidance....
