Bromsgrove must do better on recycling
Bromsgrove Liberal Democrats are calling on the council to do more to improve recycling across the district after figures revealed less than half of waste is recycled.
Local campaigners are calling for more recycling bins on Bromsgrove High Street as well as other measures to boost Bromsgrove's commitment to recycling more waste.
Local resident Siobhan Hughes said 'I have spoken to people who work on the High Street who had no idea there were recycling bins at the far ends of town. I believe with more recycling points placed along the length of the High Street and by raising more awareness, people will be more inclined to recycle things they may otherwise throw away'.
Local residents inspired by big media campaigns, recently from Sky and Blue Planet, highlighting the extraordinary damage that plastics are having on our oceans and sea creatures, are calling on Bromsgrove District Council to do everything in their power to increase recycling in the district.
Rob Hunter, campaigning for better recycling added, 'As well as more recycling bins in the town centre, I would like to see the council look at ways of improving household recycling rates. According to recent data, only 44.7% of our household waste is recycled, way behind many other councils, with some recycling over 60% of waste.'
