British Influence and the EU

British Influence

The European Union is the springboard upon which Britain can launch its global ambitions as well as promote its interests and values around the globe.

50% of foreign direct investment to Britain comes from other EU Member States. Over 40% of our exports go to the EU and they are tariff-free. These exports to EU countries help to support 4.2 million UK jobs and are worth £211 billion to the economy.

In today's world energy competition threatens our independence. In addition, climate change and international crime pose threats that do not recognise borders. We live in an interconnected world, where the challenges are international and consequently so should our response be. The EU is the vehicle that empowers us to do exactly that.

Talk of leaving the EU doesn't just threaten jobs and weaken Britain's economic wellbeing. It also risks marginalising the UK, leading to loss of influence, both in Europe and globally.

If you share these views vote REMAIN on 23rd June.

Kind regards,

Phil Bennion, former Liberal Democrat MEP for the West Midlands.
