Action Needed on Bad Parking

12 Jul 2022

Two local councillors are calling on Bromsgrove District Council and the police to step up action on
bad and dangerous parking after pedestrians are being forced into the road. Parking enforcement,
where vehicles are parked on parking restricted areas like double yellow lines, are the responsibility
of Bromsgrove District Council and when they are parked blocking the pavement, thsis can be dealt
with by the police.

Cllr Siobhan Robinson, who is a new mother, said 'Since being elected I have had lots of residents
contact me regarding bad parking across my ward and I have been trying to get the council to
enforce these issues, but the problem still persists. Recently whilst pushing my pram up the Stratford
Road, there was a vehicle parked blocking the whole pavement, forcing me to go into the road. We
all know the issues with speeding on this road so you can only imagine the fright at doing this with a
newborn.'

As well as bad parking, Cllr Josh Robinson has been pushing the council to enforce the vehicle
restrictions on Bromsgrove High Street, where most vehicles should not be driving on there between
10:30am and 4pm. Josh added, 'I have met with the parking enforcement team and had
reassurances they would ticket vehicles on the High Street during these times. However, this is not
happening, to the extent that a parking enforcement officer refused to do anything when a vehicle
was in front of them.'

Siobhan has now raised these issues with the senior officers at Bromsgrove District Council, Josh has
raised them with the police, and both are hopeful these issues will be resolved.

Finally, Siobhan added, 'It is about having a bit of thought when parking; we know it can be difficult
to park sometimes, but without further action we will be in position where people with prams,
young children and disabilities will not be able to walk on the pavements in our area.'
